The Superman/Batman Movie is Going to be a Real Thing

How do you capture the hearts and minds of comic book fans everywhere? Make a surprise announcement at Comic-Con International that the sequel to Man of Steel is going to be a team-up between Superman and Batman. That’s how.

How cool is that? Sounds to me like DC and Warner Bros. are stepping up their game big time to try and compete with Marvel. I mean, a simple sequel to Man of Steel would have been enough. They could have expected to make money and do alright by themselves. But no, DC didn’t want to just do that. They wanted to take things to the next level, baby! I’m down with that! The film has been scheduled for 2015, with a possible focus on the themes of The Dark Knight Rises, at least according to director Zack Snyder.

Other sources are reporting that this is just the beginning, and that DC also has a Flash movie planned for 2016 and they’ve moved back their Justice League film to 2017. So have DC finally entered the superhero movie arms race with some actual arms to bear?

What do you guys and gals think? Are you excited for a Superman/Batman team up film? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I’m only a little bit excited for the World’s Finest movie… but a movie on The Flash? Pass. Honestly, I can’t believe they’re talking about The Flash when we don’t even have a Wonder Woman movie yet. A widely-recognized, kick-ass superheroine is the one thing that DC has over Marvel right now, and she continues to be paid dust. It’s so disheartening.

    • I definitely agree. Wonder Woman deserves a movie. But Hollywood is Hollywood, and if they don’t want to greenlight a superhero movie with an untested female lead, they won’t. They’ll look at Elektra and Catwoman and decide it was the woman, not the bad production.

I’m totally down for a Flash movie, though.

      • It just bothers me so much that Hollywood feels this way about female leads, ya’ know? Salt was untested. The Terminator was untested. The Hunger Games was untested. All three of those movies went on to be box office and critical successes. But yeah, I can see what you mean about Elektra and Catwoman (but imo, movies about female “superheroes” that wear tacky hooker outfits can never work.)

And I mean, I’ll probably go see The Flash, but I’m not particularly excited for it right now. I’m just like, “Oh. It’s another movie about a white, male superhero.”

But if Neil Patrick Harris gets cast as Barry Allen, I’ll be over the moon!

      • Neil Patrick Harris would be a fun choice. I’m terrible at the casting game, but I think I’d go with Bradley Cooper as the Flash.

And I’m totally with you on female leads. I think a Wonder Woman movie would be fantastic. But society is what society is.
