Captain Kirk is One Bad Boy
As evidenced by this new Star Trek Into Darkness trailer. Lotta cool new footage!
One thing I realized while watching this trailer is that they aren’t using as much humor, it seems. I remember the trailers for the first movie really played up some of the humor, especially with Scotty. But we’ve seen very little of Simon Pegg. He shows up briefly in this trailer to do a little funny mugging at a big fish, but not as much as the last movie.
This one definitely looks more action packed than the first film. I also realized there seems to be very little of the Star Trek mythos. Like the grandeur and majesty of Star Trek is gone. No more big shots of the Enterprise. Very little Spock. It’s like this is just a generic space action film. Heavy on the action.
Star Trek Into Super Bowl
Iron Man 3 wasn’t the only big upcoming film to get a teaser at the Super Bowl. Check out the new Star Trek Into Darkness bit.
I think it was an alright piece. But honestly, these trailers could use more focus. I’d like to see a really rich story trailer to let us know what’s happening. Otherwise it’s just random scenes of violence and destruction, with Benedict Bandersnatch acting all menacing. He plays a good menacing, but it’s getting to the point where I want to see something new.
Impress me, Star Trek Into Darkness!
New Star Trek Trailer, Because Why Not
A new Star Trek Into Darkness trailer has hit the Internet, but with more of a whimper than a bang.
Opinions may very, but I wasn’t too impressed. It’s mostly a lot of snap cuts and random scenes of space danger. Benedict Cumberbatch’s mysterious character makes a dangerous threat, and I think that one injured captain from the first film gives Kirk a stern warning. And that’s the trailer. No sneak peeks of the klingons or anything else especially thrilling. Just lots and lots of space danger.
Which is like normal danger, but in space.
Star Trek Into Teaser Trailers
No sooner do we get a movie poster than Star Trek Into Darkness hits us with a couple teaser trailers. Or more accurately, one trailer and then a second version of that same trailer with a tiny bit more footage. Because why not.
Here’s the first one:
Very destructive, lots of lava, and some Benedict Cumberbatch badassery. I definitely like the teaser trailer. I’ve never been a big Star Trek fan, but I loved the first reboot movie. So This sequel should be exciting. I think they’ve got a great cast and a great crew. No clue on what the story is about yet, or who Cumberbatch is playing. Word has it that he’s playing a guy called Gary Mitchell, a Starfleet crewmember from the original series who became a bad guy when he gained super powers.
And ‘Gary Mitchell’ has got to be the best and worst super-villain name ever. On the one hand, it’s just so bland. But on the other hand, it’s perfect for the character. If he’s just supposed to be a regular Starfleet guy who stumbles into super powers, then he should have a regular guy name. Though it’s going to be funny seeing a guy named ‘Benedict Cumberbatch’ referred to as ‘Gary’.
Here’s the second, international trailer. Pretty much same as the first, but with some new stuff, especially towards the end.
The film comes out on May 17.
The Star Trek Into Darkness Rises
I know I’m not the first one on the Internet to compare the new Star Trek Into Darkness poster to The Dark Knight Rises poster, but come on!
I’m reasonably excited about this movie next year. I’ve never been a big Star Trek fan, and have barely watched any of the TV shows, but I loved the rebooted movie a few years ago, and I mostly enjoyed the first Star Trek movies when my girlfriend and I watched a marathon last year. So yeah, it should be a good flick. Especially with Benedict Cumberbatch as the…villain? Maybe? That’s definitely him on the poster. He’s amazing in Sherlock, if you haven’t seen that show. And you should.
The first trailer is supposed to be linked to The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (which comes out in less than 2 weeks!), so I’m looking forward to that. The synopsis is also available, though it means little to a non-Trekkie like me.
“When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.”
I guess this ‘one man weapon of mass destruction’ is Cumberbatch, who’s based on a character from one of the classic series’ episodes. We’ll see!
Any big Trek fans out there reading my blog? What does everybody else think of this movie?
