So What’s This Here Overwatch Thing Gonna Be, Eh?
Overwatch is the next game from Blizzard, makers of the Warcraft franchise, which is probably my favorite video game franchise of all time. I’m also a big fan of Starcraft and Diablo, and I’m sure I would drown myself in Hearthstone if I ever allowed myself to play it.
I’m still not exactly sure what Overwatch is going to be…but Blizzard are still masters of the animated short.
That’s some pretty flawless animation right there. If the new Warcraft movie is a flop, Blizzard should consider releasing some animated movies. Although if Overwatch is as successful as World of Warcraft, I’m pretty sure they can ignore the Hollywood money.
I’m not sure if I want to play Overwatch…but then Blizzard has never let me down…

6 Video Game to Movie Adaptations That Don’t Have to Suck
One year from now, the Warcraft movie will arrive in theaters and hopefully put all other video game movie adaptations to shame. And the Assassin’s Creed movie will apparently start filming this Fall. Both of those could be brilliant, or at least that’s what I’m hoping. Until then, we’re going to have to make due with that Adam Sandler movie that’s based off that one episode of Futurama. Video games and movies just don’t go together all that well, for some reason.
So I’m here to tell you that it can be done! I have a few ideas.
Considering some of the best video games are already pretty cinematic, I don’t see why it’s so hard to adapt a killer video game into an awesome movie. But whether they change everything completely, like the Resident Evil series, or play things way too straight, like the Mortal Kombat series, or just go insane, like the Mario Bros. movie, Hollywood just can’t seem to get video games right.
Join me after the jump for six video game to movie adaptations that I think would actually be pretty cool.
My 6 Favorite Points of Lore Interest in World of Warcraft
The invasion of the Iron Horde is upon us! Two years after Pandaria became a reality (squee!), the latest World of Warcraft expansion has dropped, bringing with it time travel, alternate realities, and a deep appreciation for the history of the Warcraft franchise.
Unfortunately, I won’t be joining the millions of gamers quite yet – my money is needed elsewhere, like bills. But hopefully it won’t be too long before I’m back questing and raiding against the Warlords of Draenor!
Being the huge Warcraft geek that I am, I’ve decided to celebrate the new release with a list about one of my favorite topics: Warcraft Lore. For those who don’t know, the wildly popular World of Warcraft MMORPG is based upon a whole series of wartime strategy games that came out in the 90s, games that I and my family grew up playing. But Blizzard, the company behind Warcraft, didn’t just build WoW up from scratch. Instead, the developers used the world, the characters and the storyline from those early strategy games to design World of Warcraft. And as someone who grew up with those strategy games, being able to continue that story in WoW is one of my favorite parts of the game.
Join me after the jump to see what I mean, and check out six of my favorite bits of Warcraft Lore that made it into World of Warcraft!
The Warcraft Movie is Going to be Surprisingly Accurate!
Blizzcon went down this weekend, with the game company revealing some fancy new bits in their upcoming catalog of games. Blizzard also revealed the first look at some of the characters in the upcoming World of Warcraft movie – and they look kind of amazing! I don’t know what to expect with the Warcraft movie, but I’m a little nervous. Video game movies are hardly ever good, and something about a World of Warcraft film just feels…desperate. I don’t know, it’s hard to say, but I just don’t think we’re going to get the second coming of Lord of the Rings.
But whatever we get, the character designs look great, and the character descriptions sound incredible. The movie is going to follow the story of the First War, and they’re going to be pretty close to the original lore. Personally, I wish they’d gone with my idea of Thrall vs. Arthas, but maybe they’re saving that for the sequel.
I don’t want to spoil everything right now, so join me after the jump to check out the first picture of a movie orc, and some great character descriptions!
Necromancer in Diablo 3?
Check out who makes a cameo in Diablo 3!
Why it’s our old pal the Necromancer from Diablo 2! He was part of a random occurrence/special event that I stumbled across in the desert in Act II the other night while playing on Nightmare Difficulty. Necromancer was my favorite class in Diablo 2, and the first class I used to beat that old game ten years ago. There have been a few Diablo 2 Easter Eggs in this new game that I’ve found (poor Warriv), and this one is so far the neatest.
He’s even got an army of skeletons walking about. The guy looks exactly like the Diablo 2 Necromancer class. I think he even references the previous character.
I just thought this was a neat little cameo to share with everybody. I’m still playing Diablo 3 and am highly enjoying it. And I do have a review coming – more than a month after the game was released. I’m not a big time fancy website, so my video game reviews have to wait until I’ve found the time to beat the game. But anyone who is interested, that review is coming.
For now, just bask in the fun that is the Necromancer! Could this be a hint at what new character classes we might see in the inevitable Diablo 3 Expansion Pack?
