The First Assassin’s Creed Movie Trailer Doesn’t Look Half Bad

I have some reservations about the Assassin’s Creed movie, and they’re the same ones I have with the games: the modern day bookends are really, really stupid. The heart of the story is in the past. Why not just tell a story about the character in the past? Why add this overly convoluted extra story about a guy in the present getting plugged into a machine so that the bad guys can put him into some kind of virtual reality memory machine? Why is that necessary? It’s not like the present day storyline ever really paid off in the games.

But hey, the trailer looks pretty cool.

I like the seriousness of the trailer. Like, they’re really pushing it, and I think it definitely works for this movie. And the trailer does a good job of explaining this dumb, convoluted set-up. Here’s hoping the film is better than I give it credit for!

Some Nifty Movie Pics to Warm Us Over on This Friday

Apparently, yesterday was the day to reveal nifty art from upcoming movies! First up is the first official pic of Michael Fassbender in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie. He looks pretty neat. I don’t think he’s playing any of the characters from the video game.

It’s possible I may have gotten this picture from Yahoo

Next up is a pretty awesome picture from Captain America: Civil War, that reveals the two sides of the upcoming conflict! There were more pictures released online, some of which were endorsed by Jeremy Renner, but this one is the best! I love the little mini Ant-Man hanging out on Cap’s shoulder.

Biff! Bam! Pow!

If you aren’t already, it’s time to get excited for Civil War next year!

Literal Assassin’s Creed 4 Trailer

It has been too long since Tobuscus made a new Literal Trailer! Fortunately for us, it’s Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag!

Another fantastic job. The man knows lyrics.

But what the heck is up with video games this month, people? We went all summer without anything, but now in the span of a single month, we’ve got Grand Theft Auto V, Scribblenauts Unmasked, Pokemon X/Y, Marvel LEGO, Batman: Arkham Origins and Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag! I’m not made of money!

Which of those games are you guys and gals going to buy?

Assassin’s Creed 4 Announced!

We’re big fans of the Assassin’s Creed series here at Henchman-4-Hire, and it is with great excitement that I announce the upcoming Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag! It’s going to be about pirates!

The game is going to be set in the early 1700s and star Edward Kenway, grandfather to Connor, the protagonist from Assassin’s Creed 3. I think that’s disappointing, because I liked Connor and was hoping to see his story continue. But that trailer is nonetheless exciting. Pirates weren’t on my list of potential future franchises, but it’s a very cool choice. The naval missions in Assassin’s Creed 3 were fantastic, so it’s great that they’re now going to become a big part of the new game. In fact, according to IGN, the developers want to make it so that land and naval gameplay are intertwined, so that you could theoretically sail up to a port in your ship, then jump off and run into the city like normal. That sounds awesome.

You can read IGN’s announcement page this morning. It has a lot of info and other videos.

So the game is going to star Edward Kenway, the most badass and coolest pirate on the Seven Seas. He’s going to be an Assassin, which is always nice, and apparently command the respect of Blackbeard himself! I suggested the Assassins meet Abe Lincoln or Hitler, but Blackbeard is a fine  choice.

AC4

The action will take place in Havana, Kingston and Nassau, which is apparently the Republic of Pirates. Whoever came up with that ‘Republic of Pirates’ idea hopefully got a promotion on the spot.

There is still going to be part of the game that takes place in the modern day, possibly without Desmond Miles. I’ve always considered the modern-day stuff to be an unnecessary add-on. We don’t need some silly invention like the Animus to provide a reason to travel back in time. Just create a game that takes place back in time. Apparently the developers were vague about the modern-day stuff in the initial announcement. Hopefully it won’t be too big of a deal when the game comes out on Oct. 29 because I’m definitely excited to be a pirate!

Assassin’s Creed 4 is probably going to turn out to be the best Pirates of the Caribbean game ever made.

A Differing Assassin’s Creed 3 Opinion

I think I’ll end Assassin’s Creed Week with a review by one of my all-time favorite online game reviews: Yahtzee! In his Zero Punctuation series, Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw takes a far more critical look at Assassin’s Creed 3, and doesn’t like it as much as I did. But then he never likes anything.

If nothing else, I hope I’ve at least introduced you to the Zero Punctuation series. I just love it!
