For Your Viewing Pleasure: Electro!

San Diego Comic-Con (Or is it Comic-Con International?) has surprised us again with a short, sweet little teaser for the new Electro from Amazing Spider-Man 2. It’s not much, but it’s still neat.

It’s not that great of a look at him, but it’s still something. And knowing Comic-Con, I doubt the actual footage from the presentation will make it online in any quality fashion. I’m still waiting on a quality version of that Ant-Man teaser reel from a few years ago. So for now, just enjoy this tiny little tease of a villain. I’m still think Electro looks good.

Electro No? Or Electro Yes?

The first official, fully-CGI’d picture of Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit the Internets yesterday, and I for one kind of like it. What do you guys and gals think?

This is how you keep magazines relevant

We’ve known for awhile now that Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, was going to be blue. I was fine with that. The new cover of Entertainment Weekly also shows us that he’s going to have all sorts of neat CGI’d lightning and electricity bits floating around his bald head. I’m sure they’ll be actively buzzing around, and not just static. This Electro looks like a combination of Ultimate Electro and the one from that cell-shaded Spidey cartoon on Mtv. At least it’s not the gaudy green and yellow costume, amiright?

Anyway, I like it. The jumpsuit looks neat and the features on the head are kind of cool. What does everybody else think? Let me know in the comments!

I Just Don’t Know How to Feel About Jamie Foxx’s Electro

The first set pictures of Jamie Foxx’s Electro hit the Internet this week…and I just don’t know how I feel about them.

It was a 60s look

No, he doesn’t look like that. The yellow and green costume with the weird, lightning bolt mask is Electro’s original comic book appearance. And I’m happy to say that they didn’t try to recreate that costume for Amazing Spider-Man 2.  That would have just been silly.

They’re going with something completely different…at least for now. Check it out after the jump.

Paul Giamatti as the Rhino May Be the Greatest Casting of All Time

But then I liked the announcement that Topher Grace would be Venom, so maybe my opinion is just plain dumb.

Seriously though, the Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Giamatti is in talks to play the Rhino in Amazing Spider-Man 2. The guy from Sideways is going to be the freakin’ Rhino! This guy!

Two great tastes that will taste great together

First of all, awesome news that the Rhino is going to be in the sequel. We already knew about Jamie Foxx as Electro, which is cool, but the Rhino too? That’s just as badass, if not more so. I love the Rhino. He’s just so…so…a lot of things, really. He’s a cool villain. Big, brawny and a lot of trouble. I loved the fight scenes in the first Amazing Spider-Man, and I think they could do even bigger and better with the Rhino. So I am totally on board with him as a villain.

It’s the Paul Giamatti part that’s just so weird! Don’t get me wrong, I love Paul Giamatti. But as the Rhino!?

Who in their right mind considered Giamatti for the Rhino?

I could picture Giamatti doing this

How are they even going to do Rhino? Will he be CGI/motion capture like the Hulk in The Avengers? That could work. Maybe he’ll be like the Scorpion King, with Giamatti’s digital face implanted onto a big CGI Rhino. I don’t know. All I do know is that this is either insane casting or brilliant casting.

What do you guys and girls think?

‘Jamie Foxx is Electrifying’ Will Be the New Thing to Say

So it seems that Jamie Foxx has been tapped to play Electro in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel. That’s pretty fascinating, actually. It tells us that Sony doesn’t want to repeat the villains from the first trilogy, and it also tells us that they want to keep things classy. Electro is hardly a marquee villain, but they casting an A-list actor anyway.

For those of you who don’t know, this is Electro:

He’s going to ‘zap’ to it!

Yeah, not exactly…ready for the big screen. That bright gold and yellow leotard might work in comics (or at least comics from the 60s and 70s), but there’s no way it’s going to fly in today’s modern movie market. Maybe in the original Spidey trilogy, but definitely not in the darker, grittier Amazing Spider-Man reboot universe. But hey, don’t worry, there already exists a much better version they can use.

Meet Ultimate Electro:

Much snazzier

He’s the hipper, more modern version of the character introduced in Ultimate Spider-Man. Same powers, same badassery, but much better costume.

As for origin, motivation and character? None of that matters! Electro, or Max Dillon, has never had a solid story based around him like some of the other villains. He’s always been just a workman sort of super-villain, a common criminal who just happened to have electricity powers. So the new movie can do whatever they want with him. Including turning him into a black man.

He will super villain you with his eyes

Though they may have some problems, considering DC already has that covered with Black Lightning…

But anyway, what do I think? I think it’s a fine idea. Jamie Foxx is a great actor, and I’m sure he could do a great job as a menacing super-villain. And Electro is a good choice for villain. His powers are tough, and I bet they’d look great on the big screen. I listed him as one of the 6 villains I’d like to see in this new franchise.

I just wonder what this might mean for the Green Goblin/Norman Osborn appearance…
