6 Bug-Themed Heroes You’ve Probably Never Heard Of
Did you ever wonder why the most popular superhero in the world is based on a spider? What’s up with that? You’ve got to admit, that’s one weird premise. Why not make a superhero based on happiness and good cheer? Though that probably wouldn’t sell as well as spiders, because spiders are both scary and awesome. Well good news, blog fans, I decided to take a trip through ‘awesome superheroes land’ and bring you a bunch of other insanely bug-themed superheroes! Because why should Spider-Man have all the fun?
Probably because he’s the best.
But don’t discount these creepy, crawly characters I’ve dug up! You’d be surprised what some people consider suitable superhero material. Join me after the jump for the six buggiest characters in comics!
Our Favorite Supergirl Artist Responds to Her Joining the Red Lanterns
I haven’t decided yet how I feel about Supergirl joining the Red Lanterns, but artist Mike Maihack has a few thoughts!
Why DC Comics isn’t throwing money at this man, I will never know. Can you imagine if these were a back-up strip at the ends of every comic? It would be a stroke of genius.
Four Minutes of Spider-Man 2 Goodness!
I watch the Super Bowl for the awesome movie trailers! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 got a nearly 4-minute-long trailer! It’s big, it’s juicy and it has me more excited for the movie than ever before! I really think this trailer was better than the Captain America one.
I loved the focus on Max Dillon and his growth into Electro. He’s a C-list super-villain at beast, but I think this movie can do a lot with him. I only wish we’d gotten to see more of Rhino.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier Finally Explains the Winter Soldier
There’s no doubt that ‘The Winter Soldier’ is a badass character name, but is he enough to hang an entire movie off? Marvel’s going to find out this Summer in Captain America: The Winter Soldier! At least the new trailer, aired during the Super Bowl, starts to introduce the villain to audiences.
Trailer looks as awesome as the first one! This film definitely stands to be a good one, I hope. And I also hope that audiences really dig Winter Soldier. I think he has potential when it comes to battling Cap, though I’m sure there’s another, bigger villain waiting in the wings. I also hope Falcon doesn’t come off as just a silly sidekick.
Review: Saga #18
As finales go, this one was a bit anti-climactic. As cliffhangers go, this one was fantastic! We come, once again, to another Saga finale. After every major volume, Brian K. Vaughn and Fiona Staples take a few months off to get caught up on the next volume. And for art as good as Staples’, I’m more than willing to give the Saga team some time off. Fortunately for us, they don’t end on too much of a nail-biter, but you better believe I can’t wait for the next volume after that last page. Plot lines get wrapped up, characters are forever changed, and the world of Saga just got infinitely bigger, my friends.
Saga #18 feels like it should be a major turning point in the ongoing adventure, but something about the action just seems a bit anti-climactic, especially considering how much actually happens. Regardless, the issue is as bombastic as they come, and that final page will leave you squealing for joy.
Comic Rating: 8/10 – Very Good.
The cliffhanger in Saga #18 is unlike any we’ve seen in the series to date, but it’s so simple and obvious, I can’t believe I didn’t see it coming from a long ways off. It definitely took me by surprise. I won’t spoil it until we get to the synopsis, but this opens up the world of Saga in so many ways. It makes Saga a whole new series, an even more exciting series! I know I say it all the time that I can’t wait to see what Vaughn comes up with next, and trust me, this cliffhanger makes that more pertinent than ever before. But no spoilers until later.
The issue itself is an exciting one. The fight that started last issue picks up right away, and nearly every character gets a chance to shine. We also get the first encounter between Gwendolyn and her ex in this series, as well as Marco’s new flame. It’s a fun moment, as good as I could have hoped, considering how long Vaughn has been building towards it. The characters have always been the biggest draw of Saga, and Vaughn handles them well in this tense moment. The issue is strong, but I can’t help but feel that some of Vaughn’s choices for some of the characters weren’t the best. The Will does not fare well at all.
We’ll see what it all leads to in a couple of months. For now, join me after the jump for a full synopsis and more review!
