This New, 5-Minute Long Aquaman Trailer Has Won Me Over

I wasn’t too keen on that first Aquaman movie trailer. The jokes were iffy and the CGI looked way too heavy-handed. But now a massive, 5-minute-long look at the film has been released from NYCC, and I’m on board!

Damn, that was cool! I am most impressed with some of those shots! Like that extended bit of Mera running on the rooftops? And the way the camera flew between alleys and then over to Arthur several blocks away? That was damn cool! All credit to director James Wan, whose work I’ve not really seen.

And the humor was a bit better this time around. It still feels a little stiff, but I liked it nonetheless.

Consider me on board for finally being interested in the Aquaman movie! Which comes out towards the end of December!

There’s Going to Be a Wonder Twins Comic!

One of the most interesting bits of comic book news to come out of New York Comic Con is that Brian Michael Bendis will spearhead a youthful comics line for DC called Wonder Comics.

Wonder Comics 01

The most important news to come out of this is that there will finally be a proper Wonder Twins comic! I ironically love the Wonder Twins! Obviously they were dorks in the old Super Friends cartoon, but everybody was dorks in that. Aquaman is still living down his cartoon incarnation.

I love the idea that the Wonder Twins are legitimate superheroes and are more than worthy of a place in proper DC Comics canon. They’re not total dweebs like Wendy and Marvin, they’ve got compelling back story, a cool look and great powers. But DC was afraid, or whatever, of bringing them into the comics for real. So they only got a few minor appearances in Extreme Justice and Young Justice. And rare appearances make the heart grow fonder!

Anyway, the new Wonder Twins comic will be written by Mark Russell, who did the amazing Flintstones comics. That guy is great! So I am very, very excited for this comic. It’s got Stephen Byrne on art, which is also great.

Wonder Comics will also include a new Young Justice, reuniting Conner Kent, Cassie Sandsmark, Bart Allen and, apparently, Tim Drake as Robin. I would be more super excited about this — considering Tim Drake is my favorite Robin — but I’m not yet sure if it’s in continuity, or if this is some special off-shoot series just to play up the nostalgia.

But hey, if we have Brian Michael Bendis to thank for not only giving us a Wonder Twins comic, but also making Tim Drake into Robin again (as opposed to “Red” Robin), then his arrival at DC is definitely for the best!

Daredevil is Almost Back, Baby!

It’s barely been a month since the last season of Iron Fist ended, and the new season of Daredevil is soon upon us! Looking back at the Netflix Defenders as a whole, I think the Daredevil seasons have been my favorite, so I’m very excited! Especially since Wilson Fisk is the villain again!

And it has been confirmed that the other villain in that trailer is Bullseye! So cool beans there! Hopefully he gets his own costume by the end.

Daredevil season 3 arrives on Netflix on Oct. 19.

The Harley Quinn Cartoon Looks Fun!

New York Comic-Con is in full swing today, and our first big bit of fun news came last night with a teaser trailer for the upcoming Harley Quinn cartoon! It looks super funny!

That’s Kaley Cuoco as Harley Quinn and Lake Bell as Poison Ivy, and both sound fine to me! I’m not some Harley Quin voice actor perfectionist. But yeah, the jokes are funny, the animation looks neat and I’m all in favor of this cartoon! I don’t hate it.

6 Weirdest Symbiotes, Who Don’t Deserve Movies

At long last, the Venom movie comes out this week, so the Internet is flooded with Venom-related articles and bric-a-brac. I’ve often thought that I should make my blog more search engine-friendly, because otherwise I’m just whining out into the void. So in an effort to be even a tiny bit worthwhile, let’s do a listicle about Venom and other symbiotes!

I probably should have put the word ‘Venom’ in the headline…That’s how that works, right?

Symbiote List 01

The yellow makes him cool

For those who don’t know, Venom is a comic book super-villain whose “costume” is actually a living alien called a ‘symbiote’. It bonds with the human host and, together, they’re a freaky-deaky alien anti-hero. Marvel Comics is currently going through all manner of big Venom stories in connection with the movie, including the reveal of yet another new symbiote offspring, seen in the picture above.

In fact, Marvel has a really crazy history of random symbiote spin-offs and offsprings. And a lot of them are pretty damn dumb, hence the list that you’re all reading today. Enjoy!
