The Lorax to Speak for SUVs

I’ve already written about how much I hate the new Lorax movie based only on the trailer. Well now Hollywood and it’s greedy money pit have given me a new reason to hate them: the Lorax is now shilling for Mazda SUVs, a motor vehicle known almost exclusively for being a gas-guzzling road hog.

It’s as if irony and decency have lost all meaning.

Does the world not care that The Lorax by Dr. Seuss was a book with a very strong environmental message. It was about a little monster who was trying to fight industry because they were destroying the Truffula Trees! And the industry succeeded! All the trees were dead!

But don’t worry, Mazda has thought of that. Their new gas-guzzling SUV is ‘Tuffula Tree friendly!’

This is insane. Whatever the hell this ‘Skyactive Technology’ is in the SUV that the commercial won’t shut up about, it doesn’t magically replace the internal combustion engine. This is still a motor vehicle and it is still harmful to the environment. But nobody out there cares. Nobody gives a flying fudge when it comes to marketing. And that’s what’s wrong with society today.

And he is what's wrong with Hollywood today

Thanks to Mother Jones for the find. The movie comes out on March 2. Expect Dr. Seuss’ grave to start rolling itself completely out of the ground soon after.

Review: Ultimate Comics: All-New Spider-Man #7

The latest issue of Ultimate Spider-Man is pretty much perfect. It’s an absolute gem of an issue, propelling the story of Miles Morales forward in fun and rewarding ways, while adding more depth to his supporting cast. Depth that I have felt was severely lacking. Writer Brian Michael Bendis is crafting a delightful saga, and the art of Chris Samnee – which I didn’t like last issue – is no longer a hindrance. He’s not Sara Pichelli, but who is?

Ultimate Spider-Man #7

But with all that said, I can’t bring myself to give this issue a perfect score.

Comic rating: 4/5: Good!

It’s as close to great as a comic book can get, but there is nothing in Ultimate Spider-Man #7 that rises to greatness. It’s missing that magical spark, that je ne sais quoi that would truly make it sparkle. Instead, it’s just a perfectly fine issue of the Miles Morales saga. It’s got humor, it’s got action, it’s got a fun look at a new hero trying out his powers and it’s got a fantastic cliffhanger. But for me as a reviewer, a comic needs that special something extra to get a perfect 5 out of 5. I’m just not seeing it yet.

But still, fantastic issue. Join me for further review and synopsis after the jump!

A Plastic Man Cartoon? For Reals?

Beyond the silliness that is an actual, honest-to-god Plastic Man cartoon.

Plastic Man is a DC Comics superhero with the ability to, as I’m sure you just watched, strength and shape his body into anything he wants. He’s a comedian, known for being a very silly sort of guy. Which means he’s perfectly suited for a silly willy, diffy daffy kids cartoon courtesy of Cartoon Network. Though he’s not going to get a full show. Instead, Plastic Man is going to get a few animated shorts to go alongside DC’s new DC Nation block of shows, which will include Young Justice and the new animated Green Lantern series.

What’s that you say? A DC Nation animated block? Tell us more, Sean!

Gladly. After the jump.

Darth Maul is Coming Back Baby!

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that Darth Maul was the best freakin’ thing about the Star Wars prequels. So the producers of the Star Wars: Clone Wars cartoon have decided that they’ll mess with continuity all they want to bring that ultimate Sith badass back to life! Behold the badass trailer!

I am a huge Darth Maul fan. So huge, in fact, that I bought both the Darth Maul comic book series and the Darth Maul tie-in novel around the time that Episode 1 came out. I think I even have a first edition Darth Maul action figure still in its original packaging somewhere back in my old bedroom.

I might have to start watching Star Wars: Clone Wars just to see this badass Sith back in action!

15 Minutes of Worf’s Ideas Getting Shot Down by People on Star Trek

This video is exactly what it says in the title. Some insane genius – possibly called tarnationsauce2 on Youtube – has strung together a series of Star Trek: The Next Generation clips in which klingon Lieutenant Worf has all of his ideas and suggestions turned down or denied by other characters. Everyone from Captain Picard to Riker to random characters just reject poor Worf. It’s the sort of humor that just gets funnier as it goes on. It’s insane and it’s brilliant all at the same time.

Though you don’t have to watch all 15 minutes to get the funny.
