More Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Every time I write the words ‘Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter’, my heart takes a beat of joy. There may be no geekiest, more fantastically giddy phrase in all of pop culture. I don’t care if this movie looks kind of schlocky, it looks to be the good kind of schlocky. This new trailer is fantastic, with plenty of action and mood. It’s also filled with something I absolutely love in movie trailers: bold, cool-sounding one-liners!

The movie will be in theaters on June 21.

For Some Reason, Japan Gets a Much Cooler Avengers Trailer

What the heck, Hollywood? The Avengers is going to be the biggest movie ever, but for some reason you let Japan have an even cooler trailer than what we saw in America? This new trailer has amazing new footage of all the heroes, as well as an unbelievable look at the Helicarrier! The real, full-sized helicarrier!

Don’t believe me? Watch the trailer! And don’t worry, all of the movie scenes are in English. Only the general trailer narration is in Japanese.

Hopefully this will make up for that crappy Superman vs. the Elite trailer I posted earlier.

My 6 Favorite Star Wars Expanded Universe Characters

Have you ever wondered what kind of power vacuum there must have been in the Empire after the Rebels blew up the second Death Star, killing Darth Vader and the Emperor? Or who were the first Jedi who discovered the Force and built the first lightsabers? Did Han Solo and Princess Leia ever settle down and have kids? Or if Luke Skywalker heralded the ‘Return of Jedi’, who were the rest? Well wonder no more, because pop culture has you covered. Welcome to the Star Wars Expanded Universe, a collection of books, comics, video games and cartoons that tell the rest of the story.

For the saga of Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker and the Rebel Alliance is only a fraction of the larger, grander Star Wars Universe. Dedicated fans, geeks and professional writers have expanded beyond the movies to tell more and more stories. The Expanded Universe is the greatest, geekiest bit of fandom there’s every been – and what’s more, it’s all A-OK’d by George Lucas himself. It’s all licensed and approved!

We're talking Jedi Wookies with lightsabers, people!

I love the Expanded Universe. I think it’s gloriously geeky and riveting. I love that for every single minor or background character that appears in the six main movies, the fans and professional writers have created full and rich backstories. I once read a book called Death Star, about the building of the first Death Star (bad book, don’t read it). Several times in the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, Darth Vader meets with other Imperial agents aboard the Death Star. Well one of the armed guards standing at the door in the background of those scenes is a main character in the book Death Star. So every time I watch A New Hope, I can point to the guard and say ‘that’s Atour Riten!’ Weird name.

But that’s the glory of the Expanded Universe, filling in the cracks and telling the stories beyond the six movies. Allow me to introduce you to My 6 Favorite Star Wars Expanded Universe Characters.

New Avengers Trailer Warps My Fragile Little Mind

It’s just so beautiful. This trailer is like a glorious comet of righteous awesomeness sailing across the sky of my dreams and delivering the superhero extravaganza I have been waiting my whole life to see. Don’t take my word for it. Watch it now!

The brilliance of this trailer is astounding. There are a few odd moments, like an out of place line or two from Agent Coulson, but otherwise it’s two minutes and 30 seconds of outright geek bliss. What’s more, this is the first real trailer to feature footage of the heroes interacting. Cap and Thor, Hulk and Iron Man, Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner, Black Widow and Hawkeye; it’s fantastic! This movie is going to rise and fall on the heroes interacting, whether it be fighting, bickering or the final assembling; and this trailer is proof that it’s going to be amazing.

Look at me, I’m gushing.

Avengers Assemble — In Other Places, to be Photoshopped Later

A new Avengers movie posted was unleashed upon the world today – and it’s hideous!

Why use Photoshop if you don't know how?

I hate, hate, hate the modern trend in movie posters to just take random pictures of the characters/celebrities and then just photoshop them into a group shot. It’s ridiculous and it’s disgusting. And it never looks good. Ever. Why do they keep doing it? During all of filming, was it really that difficult to get everybody to take a group photo in costume together? Because the alternative is this piece of garbage!

None of those characters are standing in the same room (let alone on some city street), and I wouldn’t be surprised if that Iron Man picture is him with a helmet on, and they just photoshopped Robert Downey Jr.’s face over the helmet.

This is the biggest movie in years from both Marvel and freakin’ Disney, but they couldn’t hire a competent movie poster guy?
