My 6 Most Anticipated Pop Cultures for 2025

We’re deep into January now, which means this article is pretty late — but also not so late that some of these things have come to pass yet. They’re still in our future, so it’s still safe to talk about them like that.

As I become a bitter old man, all I really have let to cling to are pop cultures like video games, TV shows and movies. And 2025 promises to be a very good year for content, in a world that relies on more and more content. So let’s talk about them for the year ahead!

And feel free to share your own anticipated pop cultures in the comments below!

6. Severance season 2

The second season of Severance comes to AppleTV+ this week, and it’s bound to be a doozy! The first season was just as good as everyone says, and the second season has also gotten universal praise! I’ll be watching every week and I can’t wait to see what new mysteries are in store! This show works because of some great casting and character work, a truly fascinating mystery and some well-timed, well-placed big reveals. It’s everything you could want in a mystery show!

5. Death Stranding 2

There are a ton of great video games scheduled to come out in 2025, or at least claiming to come out this year. This is both good and bad news. Good news because last year didn’t have much of anything (at least not for me), so I could use some good games in my life. Bad news because I can’t be buying $70 video games every month. Anyway, I’m very excited for Death Stranding 2, the highly anticipated Hideo Kojima walking-simulator sequel. I absolutely adored the first game, because in my old age, I’ve come to really like pedantry in my video games. I spent so much time in that first game just gathering all the materials needed to build all the roads, just so that I could make deliveries faster via truck. I hope the game is more of the same, with a heavy focus on deliveries instead of whatever weird story Kojima has cooked up.

4. Andor season 2

Andor season 1 was great, so it’s highly anticipated that Andor season 2 will be just as good. Star Wars TV shows have been pretty hit and miss (currently loving Skeleton Crew!), so I think it’s a safe bet to imagine the second season of Andor is going to be pretty amazing. It’s going to shake things up with a lot of time jumps, which I’m sure they’ll handle just fine. And then perhaps I’ll finally rewatch the Rogue One movie!

3. Superman

I have complete and total faith in James Gunn to make and deliver entertaining content. So I have complete and total faith in his vision of Superman, and his ability to deliver something that will be truly enjoyable. I have faith in him creating a new DCU. I have faith in this movie being close to the comics, close to classic takes on Superman, and to just be a bright, enjoyable, hugely entertaining movie experience.

2. Fantastic Four: First Steps (and other Marvel projects)

Speaking of superhero movies, Marvel has a lot coming out next year and I’m just going to lump them all together because I remain a hardcore Marvel Zombie and am looking forward to everything! Out of all the projects, I think the one I’m looking forward to most is Fantastic Four. I really like the tone and style of everything we’ve seen so far, and I think that will really stand out as something special. I think that will really make this third reboot something special. And I could use a bright, cheery take on Marvel’s First Family.

After that, I’m looking forward to Daredevil: Born Again, Thunderbolts* and Wonder Man, followed by Captain America 4: Brave New World and Ironheart. And then everything else after that. Should be a good year, if we’re lucky!

1. Grand Theft Auto VI

Will Grand Theft Auto 6 come out in 2025? Man, I hope so. We haven’t had an update since the first and only trailer came out at the end of 2023, with no word or trailer whatsoever last year. Many people think it will be delayed. But they’ve been working on the game in silence for so long, surely they are confident in their 2025 release plans, right? Why even say 2025 if they weren’t sure? They could have said nothing at all. Anyway, that’s just me hedging my bets.

Anyway, should it come out this year, I cannot wait! Grand Theft Auto is probably my favorite video game franchise of all time. I’ve been on board since GTA 2, and even played some GTA 1 around the same time! I cannot wait to see what improvements they’ve made, and the new world and characters they’ve created. I cannot wait to actually stay with GTA Online this time around, because it was barely working when GTA 5 first launched. I am fully on board with everything Grand Theft Auto 6 will have to offer and I cannot wait to play!

Hopefully it actually comes out this year….
