Looks Like We May Get that Renee Montoya Ongoing After All!
DC Comics apparently did something kind of huge with the end of Convergence — which, I admit, I haven’t been reading. This news comes via Newsarama, Bleeding Cool and a bunch of other comic sites that do much better research than I do.
I’m going to put the SPOILER after the jump, just in case you don’t want to be spoiled and are reading my blog after the comic came out. I would be interested to know the crossover of people who read my blog and who are simultaneously waiting to read the final issue of Convergence.
Still, join me after the jump!
At the end of Convergence, DC Comics has apparently brought back their Multiverse in a huge way. If I’m reading this right, the executives at DC have opened up all past worlds, realities and comic book eras in which DC Comics can tell stories.
Continuity-wise, they’ve undone everything from Crisis on Infinite Earths to the New 52.
Comic-wise, I think it means that writers will be free to explore all manner of characters going forward.
I could be wrong. Like I said, I didn’t read Convergence, and this is still super fresh. But Newsarama seems convinced, and I tend to believe them on these sorts of things.
I think this is a great idea! As evidenced by their upcoming rebranding, DC plans to really open the floodgates on the types of comics they’re going to write. The days of the grim and gritty house style are over. DC wants to expand and focus more on variety and quality than strict continuity, it seems.
More power to them!
Unless I’m totally wrong about this. Either way, if this leads to Greg Rucka writing an ongoing Renee Montoya comic, then it will have all been worth it.

I was actually happy with this.
Now if we could get the old Titans back, ’cause I’m way too tired with the Manchester Black Hour, and the previews for #9 made me realize I don’t want to keep reading the title because I’m not invested in any of these characters.
So yay, the multiverse is back!
When, though, do you think we’ll actually get books that are set in anything other than the New52 continuity?
I have no clue. This fall, maybe. Hopefully DC has put some thought into this. Though I doubt they’re going to abandon any solid-selling New 52 comics anytime soon.
