The New Doctor is…a Guy I Know Best from Doctor Who!

The new Doctor was announced on Sunday, and I’ll let him introduce himself. Though don’t watch or read if you don’t want to be SPOILED!

I looked up him up on IMDB and saw that I know him best from a previous episode of Doctor Who, as the father in the Pompeii episode in season 4. So cool. He’s got a fun voice and a neat look. And clearly they’re going for a Doctor with more character than looks this time, which is an OK choice. Between David Tennant and Matt Smith, the new series definitely wanted a young, hunky Doctor. But when you look back at the classic series, a lot of the Doctors were older men. So I think it was a specific choice to go older and more whimsical-looking than keep things hunky.

I’m slightly disappointed that they didn’t go with a female Doctor or a Doctor of color, but only slightly. I didn’t expect them to do something so radical. But it would have been neat if they had.

Anyway, I am optimistic about this guy, so we’ll just have to stay tuned to see how he does! What do you all think of him?

  1. Peter Capaldi is a class act. If you get a chance I recommend watching him in ‘The Thick of it’ – the series that invented the term Omnishambles and showed the British public just what a talented actor this guy is.

I’m glad they decided to go with an older doctor. My fiancee and I were hoping for a female doctor as well. I was hoping for Julian Barratt or Idris Elba as well.
