Marvel to Give Us More Punisher
Some of you may have noticed that I’ve stopped reviewing the Punisher comic by Greg Rucka. I haven’t been enjoying it, and when that big crossover hit with Spider-Man and Daredevil, I wasn’t able to buy the other comics and basically I just haven’t been able to work up any interest whatsoever in continuing. If you highly enjoyed my Punisher reviews, let me know in the comments and I can try and continue.
Otherwise, brace yourself for a second ongoing Punisher series…for some reason.
I guess all those teasers from earlier this week that I thought referred to Ultron War were wrong. It’s just teasing a new Punisher series. Or maybe Marvel is rebooting the current Punisher series. I don’t know, but I assume we’ll find out more soon.
I don’t think Punisher needs more than one series at a time. Back in the 90s, he had four ongoing series because the Punisher was very popular…until all four series crashed and burned, and Punisher became radioactively unpopular for a long while. One Punisher series is all that Marvel needs, as far as I’m concerned. I am not like the current series, but a lot of other people do. So good for them.
But for my money, nothing will ever reach the heights of Garth Ennis’ Punisher ever again. I’m very biased.

At first i thought you meant that they were making a Punisher film, Marvel just recently got the movie rights back. After the lack-luster success of The Punisher with Thomas Jayne, though personally i liked it, and the abysmal theatrical performance of the reboot, Punisher: War Zone, funniest non-funny movie i have seen in years, the other studios let the license return to Marvel. Last i heard Marvel Studios is waiting till their latest films are done before they give punisher another go.
bye the way, i have posted a dozen or so comments on your blog, but have yet to say how much i love it. It is a great blog, keep up the awesomeness, man.
Thanks for the kind words!
I actually enjoyed your punisher reviews, I like this series more than you but they were fun to read and very informative (although I did notice a couple of mistakes), you were very honest and I like a review when instead of just praising something I like they point the mistakes that some people want to let pass, all in all I would like to read your opinion of “The Omega Effect” and the rest of Rucka`s Punisher. And while its true that nobody will be as good as Ennis in writing Frank you have to admit that Rucka is doing a better job than most. Also what were you thoughts of Jason Aaron´s PunisherMAX?
Because you demanded it, I’ll try to get caught up with Punisher! I’ll read Omega Effect in one sitting and review that whole story, then try to get caught up in issues. Though it seems to me that Punisher still has that stupid eye bandage in recent issues!
Also, I never read Jason Aaron’s PunisherMax. I stopped after Ennis’ last volume, which I collected as TPBs. They were amazing when I could read each story all in one sitting.
Well thank you for continuing, and I think I heard Rucka say in one interview that the time he is taking to heal the eye wound is based on one he suffered himself one time that took a long time to heal, but he said the bandage will fall off soon, probably between issue 13 and 14.
Also Aaron´s PunisherMAX was good, it was not “Ennis good” but better that all the other guys that try to fill the MAX series after he left, although it doesnt start to really kick in until about the halfpoint and there were some inconsistencies that made me think it didnt happen in the Ennis MAX universe and just one that was really similar to it, but still, it was a fun read and they finish it the only way it could have ended for Frank.
Yeah, I figured the eye bandage thing was based on some kind of realism. And kudos for Rucka for going for realism. But it just looks so stupid on the Punisher! Really cuts down on his menace.
