Doctor Who: The Regenerations

Doctor Who.

There are so many bright, pleasant things I can say about this, being English, myself.  Fans of Doctor Who are aware that he “regenerates” every few years, replaced by another actor for the show.

Since the first series, with William Hartnell, the Doctor has regenerated ten times.  Here they are, compiled back to back.  Sometimes silly, sometimes hammy, and sometimes utterly heartbreaking.

If you haven’t heard of Your Favourite Martian, this band has produced a number of music videos that I feel must be shared with the world.  I’ve taken it upon myself to educate the ignorant masses with this slice of sheer brilliance.  Enjoy.

Review: Ultimate Comics: All-New Spider-Man #3

The heroism of Miles Morales, the new Spider-Man, kicks off with this issue! But poor, young Miles just isn’t ready for it. He’s only like 13, I think. He’s not a hero! He just wants to be a kid! I can really feel for the boy. Just because his best friend Ganke thinks it’s the coolest thing in the world (and it is) doesn’t mean Miles is ready to be a superhero.

But sometimes fate kills Peter Parker.

Ultimate Spider-Man #3

Comic rating: 5/5: Great!

I really enjoyed this issue. The All-New Spider-Man is not yet blowing me away, but it’s a fantastic read. And writer Brian Michael Bendis finally kicks off some real spidery-heroics with this issue. Miles makes his first big play at being the new Spider-Man, even if he doesn’t have the costume yet. And even if it’s a scene straight out of both the first and second Spider-Man movies. (Wow, now that I think about it, Spider-Man really did save a kid from a burning building in both movies…) Anyway, the introduction to Miles Morales continues to be stellar in both story and art.

But what the hell is up with that cover? Who thought it would be a great idea to awkwardly shove Spider-Man’s huge ass in our faces?

Because Voltron is Awesome, That’s Why

Rumors of a live action Voltron movie have been circulating Hollywood for years now. I remember reading once that the producers wanted to give it a realistic ‘Batman Begins’ style. I’m all in favor of that. I was a huge Voltron fan as a kid…even if my memories now are very hazy. Still, Voltron is a fun concept and it could make for a badass movie if handled correctly.

So let’s see how Director Alex Albrecht would handle it.

This video sort of just appeared on the Internet today. I’ve been trying to dig up some info, but am finding none. It stars actor Timothy Omundson, who has starred in Deadwood, Psych and other shows. So he’s a legitimate actor. And this looks like a serious, pretty decent sort of film about Voltron. It stars an older Keith, pilot of the Red Lion, having crashed after some battle. He only has precious little oxygen left. What’s he to do?

Pretty gloomy.

Here’s the description on the official Youtube page:

When a man regains consciousness in a Voltron battle lion after an “accident” he has to decide does he live a few more minutes or try to tell the world what happened… the end is only the beginning.

Could this be something similar to Mortal Kombat: Rebirth? Where a fan of the games wanted to make a new, serious movie, so he first made his own fan film…only to have it become so popular online that Hollywood’s going to let him make a real movie? That would be awesome! We could be looking at the birth of a new form of movie-making. If you want to get your movie made, make it your own damn self and put it on the Internet. That’s how Kevin Smith got started, only he had to pay a few million to get it produced and into theaters. Now these indie guys can post it online.

Either way, I look forward to possibly more Voltron short films!

Go, Voltron Force!

This weekend I’ll be going to the New York City Comic-Con, the biggest comic book convention on the East Coast! I went last year, and it was awesome. This year I’m going with my brother and robot enthusiast Cip (or Professor Robot). I plan on seeing more, doing more and meeting more people this year. So stay tuned to this blog to see all the pictures and read about the adventures I’ll be having at the Comic-Con.
