I Used to Really Like Movie Trailers

I don’t know what’s happened to the state of movie trailers these days, but it’s been a good many years since I was last captivated and enthralled by a good movie trailer. The sound bites, the music, the clips of a movie I was salivating to see; trailers were works of art in and of themselves. I used to lovingly watch the show on the E! Network called ‘Coming Attraction’s, and it was nothing but movie trailers!

What a sorry world we live in.

Anyway, here are two trailers that recently came out. The first is Men in Black 3:

I’m definitely not impressed. I mean, really, Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones don’t have better things to do? Who in their right mind was calling for a Men in Black 3? It’s been more than a decade since the last movie came out, and even that wasn’t very popular. But then I’ve been disappointed in the series ever since they got rid of the female agent from the end of the first movie. I liked the idea of getting new agents, instead of just the buddy comedy set up.

Next is G.I.Joe: Retribution.

Cooler…but not captivatingly so. It’s got some neat stuff with ninjas, it has the Rock, and it’s better than the original G.I.Joe trailer, but I’m not sold. The first G.I.Joe movie trailer was a thing of cringing.

Though I will say that this trailer has convinced me to finally see the first G.I.Joe movie. So I guess it’s done that right.

  1. MIB 3 looks kind of cool, but i’m not sure I’ll see it. It looks like it’s going to try to be more funny than…good. I don’t know. I’ll still probably see it if my wife wants to. Thanks for posting the trailer.

  2. At this point, so many years later, I can’t imagine anyone involved in the production of MiB3 is shooting for ‘good’. I assume the target was ‘decent enough to make money’.
