6 Pop Culture Resolutions for 2015

Welp, 2015 is here and I’m still fat and broke. Guess my resolutions for 2014 didn’t pan out…again! I did a little bit better with my pop culture resolutions last year, some of which actually came true. So I thought I’d go ahead and make this a new, annual tradition!

Plus this is definitely the year I get in shape and get rich!

I swear by all that is honest and true!

There’s a lot in store for us in 2015, one of the biggest pop culture years in a long time. Not only is Avengers 2 hitting the big screen in the spring, but the year’s going to end with the Star Wars relaunch. How cool is that? We’ve got great TV shows, great video games, great comics, and great everything else. But how great can they be? What do I hope to see in 2015? Join me after the jump to find out!

6. I Want to See More Robin

Give him another TV show!

I’m a huge Robin fan. There’s no denying it. And while I’m still a little disappointed that DC resurrected Damian Wayne instead of introducing a new Robin, there are still plenty of chances for them to make it up to me in the coming year. Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice doesn’t come out until 2016, but how about DC pick some time in 2015 to reveal that Robin will appear in the film, in some capacity. There were rumors that a female Robin might show up, but we still don’t have any confirmation. Someone needs to leak that information soon.

I’m also still waiting for confirmation that Robin has a big role in Batman: Arkham Knight. The most we’ve seen so far is there will be Robin action figures released in connection to the game, but still no word on whether or not Robin himself will appear. He had a pretty big role in Arkham City and its DLC, but barely appeared in Arkham Origins. So before this great new game gets released, I want real, solid confirmation that the Boy Wonder will fly again! That’s not too much to ask, right?

5. The Return of Multiple Man

Where my love affair began

My favorite comic book character has been missing from all comics for a year and a half now – that has to stop! What the heck am I reading comics for if not to follow the further adventures of Multiple Man? I was clearly spoiled for those 5+ years when he was the star of X-Factor, and I was very happy that he got to retire to a peaceful life, but no comic book character stays away forever! It’s time to bring Jamie Madrox back in grand style! I don’t know how, I don’t know where, but somebody’s got to have some great Multiple Man ideas.

I know I do! Give me a call, Marvel!

4. Justice League on the Small Screen

Who’da thunk it?

I never got around to writing a full post about it, but I really enjoyed the crossover episodes of Arrow and The Flash. Not just because they were good TV, but because of the potential they held. I love both shows. They are well-made, live action superhero dramas that don’t ignore the comics. They’re every fans’ dream come true, and they’re only going to get bigger and better!

While Marvel is building a combined cinematic universe on the big screen, DC is doing the same thing on the small screen (though they’re also gonna try on the big screen). Arrow and The Flash are part of the same universe, and both shows also have bonus characters like Arsenal, Firestorm and the Atom hiding in the wings. It’s an unconventional Justice League, but it has the makings of a Justice League nonetheless!

I never expected to care so much about Firestorm

On top of that, DC is also moving forward with TV shows about Supergirl and the Teen Titans, both of which are rumored to tie into the same universe, despite being on different networks. I think that’s a great idea! Let everybody participate in the crossover episodes! It’ll be way more fun that way.

In 2015, I want to see DC just go ahead and make their live action Justice League happen on TV. I don’t have a lot of faith in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but DC is killing it on the small screen!

3. An Amazing Ant-Man

I love that costume!

Last year I was worried about Guardians of the Galaxy and this year it’s Ant-Man. We all know that Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be glorious, but what about Ant-Man? Can our new favorite superhero stand on his own in the shadow of the much bigger movie? Will it be charming? Will Ant-Man makes any wave at all? Edgar Wright is no longer at the helm, but can the rest of this crazy crew keep the film afloat? God, I hope so. I want this movie to be just as damn good as Guardians of the Galaxy. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a superhero film since the first Avengers. Please let it be good!

2. Star Wars Awakens

I also dig that lightsaber

I want the new Star Wars to be good – and this is coming from a prequels apologist. I like Star Wars, I like Disney, and I’m happy with what Disney has done with Marvel Comics, so why can’t they have similar success relaunching Star Wars? I want Episode 7 to be good, I want all their spin-off ideas to be good, and I want their Rebels cartoon to get better (I don’t particularly like it, at least not in the shadow of Clone Wars).

Fortunately, I trust J.J. Abrams, and what I’ve heard about the story for The Force Awakens sounds pretty good. We have a whole year to wait, but hopefully by this time in 2015, we’ll all be cheering for the glorious return of Star Wars!

1. New Henchman-4-Hire!

Don’t be worried!

This is more of a personal resolution, but I’ve become part of pop culture, haven’t I? If not, that should be another resolution. But it’s high past time I updated the look of this blog. Perhaps in time for the fourth anniversary. One of the things that making my own comic has taught me is that it isn’t that hard or expensive to hire an artist online. I’ve met a lot of great artists so far and learned a bit about where and how to hire them. So sometime this year, once I’ve got a little extra money squared away, I’m going to hire an artist to finally draw up my own Henchman character.

I’ve been using Marvel’s Bob, Agent of HYDRA since this site started. It’s a great pic, but I don’t own it, and I’d really like to own my own character. I’ve got some ideas, and perhaps some new color schemes. I just need to find the right artist, pay them a fair wage and hopefully I’ll have a great rebranding! Wish me luck!

This is what I want to see in 2015, how about you? What pop culture events or touchstones do you hope to witness? Any great movies coming out? Any TV shows you hope come to fruition? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Good luck on the resolutions man, especially the blog, I really have loved reading your insights and opinions. Oh and I was wondering if you are going to do a list of six dos and don’ts for the Marvel/Netflix series that launch next year. Although I can see your point about DCs tv based Universe being better then marvel, marvel only having Agents of Shield and soon Agent Carter, and with Arrow and Flash being so epic, but I still hold out hope that Marvels tv and movie universe tie-ins will be better.
Oh personal question, where do you look for online artists? Deviant art?

    • Thanks for the kind words! I did a list back when the Netflix Defenders were announced about what I wanted to see in them. It’s on the List of Six page under television!

And yes, Deviant Art is a great place to look for artists. They have places in their forums specifically for work-for-hire ads. That’s how we found our comic artist.
